Michael Carrick "desperate" to win Europa League

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has slammed the side's performance under Jose Mourinho this season, claiming he should be "embarrassed" by the club's place in the league.

United hold a slender 1-0 lead in their semi-final clash with Celta Vigo ahead of a return date at Old Trafford on Thursday, but their manager remains calm despite there being no guarantees that an expensively-assembled squad will be back among the continental elite next season.

The only senior players absent from the section of the session open to media at the Aon Training Complex were those expected not to feature - the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Tim Fosu-Mensah and Ashley Young.

"It's a massive risk, but if Mourinho takes United to the final and they win, people will say he did the right thing".

"Now, it's impossible for the players to play all the games", added Mourinho. It was not a gamble, it was a simple decision.

"It was a decision based on common sense".

"Seventeen matches in seven weeks, April and May, with 16 players is completely impossible".

"We'll respect who is left in the competition - it's not going to be easy and we're not taking anything for granted at all - but that's got to be the aim".

"It was not a gamble, just a outcome of our situation".

"We go to West Ham, will try to win and that's all we can do". But we will give everything we can.

"We are giving everything we can, the players, myself, everyone, we are giving everything so when you give everything, no problem".

Champions League would've been in touching distance. He's like us - we all want to win and we all want to lift trophies.

"This is a European semi-final, it's the biggest chance to win a European competition in the last two or three years".

Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas has warned Manchester United that his side have nothing to lose at Old Trafford this Thursday night.

"I think football changes and you have different periods, different challenges in your career", Rooney said. "I don't think it's consistent, the atmosphere, the enthusiasm", he said. For the first time in his career, Arsene Wenger defeated Jose Mourinho in a Premiership match, while Liverpool once again did an incredibly very bad thing and lost the third place in the standings after they only managed to get one point from the game with Southampton. The game against Anderlecht wasn't warm enough to make a thrill, for a quarter-final.
