Amit Shah:No Chance Of India Pakistan Series At Their Home Grounds

Thursday, 22 Jun, 2017

"Hold them today if you will and Shiv Sena cadres would be fired up to fight", he said, referring to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' statement that the BJP was ready for mid-term polls "if they were imposed".

The Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna has also reported that the meeting of the party chief with Shah could take place on June 18.

Shah, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, visited Thackeray's residence "Matoshree" and held a closed-door meeting, which started around 10 am and lasted almost 75 minutes.

The Sena's attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came barely 24 hours after Shah and Thackeray met in Mumbai for 75 minutes amid optimism of a thaw in the chilled relations between the two allies of almost three decades.

Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts, the main Opposition parties continued to fume.

"When the Sena talks about farmers and takes a nationalist stand over issues, attempts are made to teach us a lesson".

A Shiv Sena leader who requested anonymity, however, conceded that the party had no option but "to support Kovind". The Sena's scathing attack on Shah came a day after he met party president Uddhav Thackeray at the latter's residence "Matoshree".

Having been tight-lipped so far, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary board will meet on Monday to finalize their presidential candidate to succeed President Pranab Mukherjee.

The BJP leaders indicated that they would get in touch with the Sena, once there is some consensus on the presidential nominee within the BJP.

On the issue of recent loan waiver announced by the government, the BJP president remarked that the financial burden of the loan waiver will be on the government and not on the banks.

He was responding to reports speculating midterm polls in the State against the backdrop of farmers' stir for loan waiver amid the agrarian crisis.

If the Sena weighs in with support for the Opposition candidate, then any rationale for remaining in the NDA at the Centre or in a post-poll partnership with the BJP in Maharashtra just ceases to exist. Modi is slated to visit Portugal on June 24, before his trip to the USA on June 26 and the Netherlands on June 27.

BJP President said Jana Sangh, on the other hand, always believed in nation first, party second and the person last.
