MedStar Washington Hospital Center Director of Trauma Dr. Jack Sava speaks during a news conference in Washington, Friday, June 16, 2017, about the condition of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of La. who was shot in Alexa.

The hospital where Rep. Steve Scalise is recuperating from a gunshot wound says he "remains in critical condition, but has improved in the last 24 hours". Medstar Washington Hospital Center said the congressman underwent another surgery Saturday, and that he is more responsive and speaking with family. For three months, Hodgkinson lived out of a white cargo van in a gentrified neighborhood just miles from where USA laws are made.

Lobbyist Matt Mika, who was shot multiple times and critically wounded, has undergone additional surgery and doctors expect a full recovery, his family said Saturday. A relative said Friday morning that his condition at George Washington University Hospital had been upgraded from critical to serious.

Before the event, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said: "Tonight we will go to the game, play our hardest, but we will all be Team Scalise".

"A lot of times in politics we have divisions but it shouldn't come to violence", he said. Trump later said that we're all here to serve the nation we love, and how that's a source of unity.

President Trump urged Americans on Thursday to pray for Rep. Steve Scalise as he fights for life a day after being shot on a baseball field.

They came from all over the country Thursday night to watch congressmen play a game that they have played for more than 100 years - the congressional baseball game pitting Republicans against Democrats for charity at Washington Nationals Stadium. One of the two Capitol Police officers shot, Special Agent David Bailey, threw the first pitch.

After Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot in 2011, we urged readers not to blame anyone but Jared Loughner, her deranged attacker, while deploring incendiary political rhetoric. Capitol Police said they had "no evidence to suggest that the purchases were not lawful". Scalise, the third most powerful Republican in the House, was shot through the hip.

"Hodgkinson had taken his van to the mechanic who works two blocks from the scene of the attack".

Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials declined to confirm media accounts that the list of names Hodgkinson carried was a "kill list"; they said the names were listed without any other comment. The other victims are recovering from their wounds, while the gunman died after a shootout with police.

So far, investigators have not linked Hodgkinson to any radical groups, said a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly.
