Hugh Freeze Made Phone Call To Number Tied To Escort Service

After Mississippi football coach Hugh Freeze resigned Thursday, with the opener six weeks away, offensive line coach Matt Luke is being thrown into an interim head coaching position.

The Rebels, in addition to the Nutt lawsuit, are being investigated by the NCAA for 21 allegations, according to USA TODAY Sports.

The list of SEC victors against the celebrated Alabama coach dwindled this week with the sudden exit of Hugh Freeze, who was ousted at MS on Thursday after school officials cited "a pattern of personal misconduct", including a call to a number linked to an escort service. "As of yesterday, there appeared to be a concerning pattern", Bjork explained. "There was a phone call that was not redacted and it was brought to our attention in the middle of last week", Ross Bjork, vice chancellor for intercollegiate athletics at the university, said.

Bjork said "it's hard to say" if there will be any roster changes. USA Today reported earlier Thursday that Freeze phone records showed one call in January 2016 to a number connected to an escort service. An internet search shows the number linked to a site that offers various escort services.

"The day after I decommitted, Hugh Freeze called me", Oliver said in June. Among them: who is next for Ole Miss, will Freeze ever coach again, and what NCAA penalties await the Rebels? "He was a young kid from the Gulf Coast of MS and his brother had played quarterback at Ole Miss".

Bjork said that Freeze was "very transparent, open, honest and admitted the conduct".

Fired on July 27, 2011, amid an NCAA investigation into improper benefits and academic misconduct. However, the school kept digging through the records and must have found additional troubling information. "It's a huge win for our program and our fans", Freeze says afterward.

So how good of a job is Ole Miss, really?

MS does not face fellow SEC school Florida this season. A season already under a ban and limited scholarships, as well as self-imposed sanctions, to hopefully appease NCAA investigators.

The Ole Miss situation has hit Tuberville in another way, too, in regard to his friendship with Freeze. The native of Independence, Mississippi, made his way through the ranks as a high school coach in Tennessee and was hired by Ole Miss first as a support staff member in 2005 and then as recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach from 2006 to '07.

The Ole Miss program was under a lot of stress even before Freeze's resignation. If not and the product on the field suffers, and in turn recruiting continues to wither, we could be looking at an extended rebuild for a team that had built a roster capable of competing with (and beating) the best of the SEC.

This is long gone for coach Freeze.
