Reince Priebus Replaced by John Kelly as Chief of Staff

Those tensions burst wide open into public view Thursday when it was revealed that Scaramucci, who refers to himself as "The Mooch", called a reporter and unloaded on Priebus.

"The president has a right to hit a reset button. I'm on Team Trump".

Mr Kelly, a retired four-star general who has been serving s Homeland Security Secretary, will have his work cut out. "He is a Great American and a Great Leader".

Last week, at the Aspen Security Forum, Kelly was among several top national security officials who backed the government's conclusion that Russian Federation carried out a campaign of cyber attacks and fake news to influence the election in favor of Trump.

Presidents typically cycle through multiple chiefs of staff during their time in office.

No formal announcement has been made about whether or not Priebus resigned or was sacked from the position, though Trump thanked him for "his service" in a tweet.

The Priebus firing proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Trump's attempts to merge his NY and family worlds with the staider environment of official Washington had failed miserably - and that he has clearly sided with those urging him to be more himself over those who had hoped to bend him somewhat to the ways of the nation's capital.

Trump also tweeted his thanks to Priebus.

At one point during the call, Scaramucci called Priebus a "f-- paranoid schizophrenic".

And the powerful Iowa Republican who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee also told President Donald Trump he won't stand for any more of Scaramucci's "filthy talk".

"I am extremely disappointed", said Robin Hayes, the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party. Priebus took the return flight to Washington, which had to circle the runway due to a storm, his fate sealed in the tweets that were sent by the president just as he stepped off the plane.

"I fired one guy the other day". As secretary, he was a proponent of the president's travel ban and implemented new regulations for laptops on planes in passenger carry-ons - a ban that was recently lifted. "I am honored to be asked to serve as the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States", Kelly said in a statement responding to the new position.

Reacting after the announcement, he said he would remain a strong supporter of President Trump's agenda and policies. With a retired general in charge of his White House now, the president hopes to bring in some discipline and end the current mess inside the White House.

Priebus also said his views on Trump haven't changed, adding he's still a fan of the President.

Priebus and Scaramucci have always been at odds.

After frequent conversations with Kelly, Trump recently warmed up to the idea of naming Kelly chief of staff to more effectively manage personnel and offered it to him earlier this week, a senior White House official said.

Over the last few weeks, Trump has expressed frustration over the White House leaks. "Ever", Priebus said in October when an Access Hollywood video was revealed.

As secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, established in 2002 in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, Kelly dealt with issues like immigration, border security, domestic terrorism threats and cybersecurity. She previously served as communications director and spokeswoman for the California Republican Party, the Colorado Recalls and Prop. 8 which went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. "It's probably not that comfortable for John, and it probably makes his job that much tougher because, again, this is a guy who has kind of a pretty straightforward approach to, 'This is my mission, and this is what I have to accomplish, and I haven't got time for the niceties of political chitchat'". Yet, just days after taking office, Kelly had to lead the agency as it dealt with the chaos and confusion that ensued at airports in the US and around the world. He defended the orders to reporters and lawmakers and insisted he indeed had been part of the decision-making process.

U.S. Representative Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, is among those being considered for Homeland Security secretary, a DHS official said.

In a statement, Priebus said it had been one of the great honours of his life to serve Trump and the country.
