Gauri Lankesh, 55, was shot dead by three unidentified men who had shot her when she returned home from her office in the city.

■ Siddaramaiah also said there were four CCTV cameras installed at Gauri's house, and one of them had caught the image of a person wearing a helmet entering the gate and firing at her after which she collapsed two to three feet away.

Gauri lankesh was gunned down by bike-borne assailants at her residence in the Ideal Homes Layout in Rajarajeshwari Nagar locality in Bengaluru.

"We are checking CCTV footages". "Maybe if that murder had been cracked we might not have seen this day", Neela added. "An idealist leftist. In the end, became victim of the same politics she believed in and fought for".

"Shocking alacrity shown by liberals in #GauriLankesh case, they were out with placards within minutes of her death".

It is pertinent to mention that activist Dabholkar who was president of the the Committee to Eradicate Superstition in Maharashtra was murdered on August 20, 2013 when two motorcycle riders shot him dead near Omkareshwar temple, Pune but Police have failed to solve this case. While some theories seem somewhat credible, and are even being probed by the police, others despite being completely absurd are going viral on social media.

Film writer and poet Javed Akhtar wrote, "Dhabolkar, Pansare, Kalburgi, and now Gauri Lankesh. These atrocious crimes should be stopped and action on these cases should be rightly given".

The IIMC Alumni Association has demanded a court-monitored SIT probe into well-known journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder. A Special Investigation Team has been given charge of the murder investigation. Journalists and common people have come out in open condemning and expressing shock over the incident. "State governments must act to protect those whose voices of dissent are being silenced", said Basu.

Although she was a pro-left activist, some theories suggest that Left wing members might have been involved in her murder. She was a critic of the communal forces of RSS.

Gauri was in the thick of the Naxal movement in Karnataka. I can not say yet if it was a part of a conspiracy. This is beyond freakish! She had carried several stories in recent months critical of the federal government. His murder remains unsolved. "Her assassination must be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice", said Asmita Basu, Programs Director at Amnesty International India.
