Steelers' Roethlisberger has five passes intercepted in loss to Jaguars

Tuesday, 10 Oct, 2017

Ben Roethlisberger hasn't thrown for 300 or more yards in 10 consecutive games, and that trend could continue as Jacksonville has the top ranked pass defense and leads the National Football League in sacks with 18.

In 2014, when Ben Roethlisberger was one of the league's hottest quarterbacks, airing it out was a sound strategy. Cornerbacks Artie Burns and Joe Haden were each pulled for one play for additional linebackers, Tyler Matakevich and L.J.

His awful game-play wasn't what had people talking after the game though, it was his attitude and how he basically admitted that he sucks now and just might be washed up.

We'll have up-to-the-minute scoring and stats here throughout the game. He has posted a quarterback rating above 87 once this season and has not thrown for more than 250 yards yet. Then came Smith's Pick Six.

Beating the now reeling Ravens in London is one thing. It's largely been every week.

Is doubt beginning to creep into Roethlisberger's mind?

Maybe the Steelers don't have doubts.

Not that Roethlisberger's play won't improve.

How does he plan to bounce back this time? That was, even more, time than Martavis Bryant, who was questionable coming into Sunday's game (illness) ended up with (62 snaps).

But he's no longer a quarterback in his prime.

To do so, however, the Steelers have to be less reliant on Roethlisberger being his old self and realize that it has an older Roethlisberger.

The Jaguars have allowed just 147 passing yards per game this season. Ramsey collided with Brown as he attempted to make a leaping grab, resulting in a deflection that was pulled down by Church and returned for the Jaguars' second touchdown off an interception in the game.

It came against a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.

What Denver did was ride its running game, with Terrell Davis leading the way.

More on this big win throughout the week.

That's not what the Steelers are doing with Roethlisberger right now.

The 3-2 Jaguars have already matched their win total from all of last season, after humiliating Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers today. He also saw a team-high 4 targets but was quiet most of the day as Blake Bortles attempted just 14 passes in the blow out win. Winston finished the game with 334 yards, completing 26 throws from 46 attempts.

"It's hard to say what's going on", Roethlisberger said. "Now you kind of have an understanding of where you are and where you want to get to". But Mike Tomlin and Todd Haley are almost as responsible for the loss. The longest Seahawks run of the game was a nine-yard Russell Wilson scramble. Perhaps it's time some of that responsibility be taken away from him, especially when he's not playing particularly well. And they need to do so soon. Fournette has lived up to his preseason hype and has easily been Jacksonville's most effective offensive weapon, whether it's running the ball or taking short passes and turning them into big gains.

"I was just right there in the nick of time to grab it", Church said. I've had bad stretches.
