Families and friends gather to spread awareness during walk for breast cancer

Water Works Park hosted the Titan Internationals' third annual Ride to a Cure in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Communications director Brian Ortner said the turnout every year amazes him. The Fun Run was a one mile trail that someone could do instead of the 5K.

SWIM Across the Sound raises money to help patients and their families and to help more women get screened for breast cancer.

Male Breast Cancer Coalition now include men affected in the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada Bangladesh and the US. Her grandmother was a survivor for more than 40 years before she passed.

Dr. Norris said he's happy to see how many survivors and other people come to socialize at the Survivors BBQ, but he also wishes they weren't there.

Laura Paxton is the Executive Director of United in Pink.

These rates highlight the importance of detecting breast cancer early when treatments are more effective.

"We have noticed great growth year after year with just the community involvement and excitement around this event and with major support for our survivors", she said.

And coming together is what it's all about.

All funds raised at that event will be donated to the Saint Lukes Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI) emergency relief fund for non-medical expenses.
