Auburn's Kerryon Johnson day-to-day with SEC title game looming

Kerryon Johnson says his only objective over the next few days is to get his injured shoulder medically cleared to play in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game.

"This game is huge for me", Johnson said. "A big part of this game is not making turnovers, and we've got to try to force some on them and not turn it over ourselves". This is football, and it's week whatever it is. However, the Tigers surrendered at least 70 rushing yards to every other opponent (nearly all of which are less talented than Georgia). Chubb was the leader, with 1,098 yards and 13 touchdowns.

"I made a mistake when I reached out with the wrong arm to get that touchdown", he said.

30-minute mark: I take a look at some other SEC headlines including the ongoing coaching drama at Tennessee, Dan Mullen being introduced as new coach at Florida, and the latest on the continuing searches at Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. "And obviously, we've got to play with more discipline and composure to avoid the knucklehead decisions we had in the game". "Just coming out there with him and getting in his way, shaking him up a little bit and have a little fun and that's all we had to do".

Johnson, this year's leading rusher and a late entrant in the Heisman Trophy race, suffered a shoulder injury against Alabama and is questionable to play. He was also sacked a season-high four times.

Jones hauled in a 51-yard scoring pass from fellow receiver Mohamed Sanu and went 25 yards for a TD on a throw from Matt Ryan, finishing the play with a soaring dive for the pylon, somehow managing to stay in bounds before sticking out the ball with his right hand.'I'm feeling better, ' Jones said. "I get all the flash and pictures, but those guys do an excellent job". "Back in the day, Cam Newton was just the biggest superstar of them all".

Johnson is confident he will play, and offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey believes Johnson will do everything he can to get ready.

If Johnson can't play, or if he is limited, the Tigers would have to rely on sophomore Kam Martin as the primary running back. Also, at 5-foot-10 and 182 pounds, Martin's frame makes him better suited as a change-of-pace option rather than an every-down back.

"I think he's capable", Lindsey said Sunday night in a news conference.

"Everybody doesn't know what we've gone through", Matthews said.

The quarterback started the 2002 and 2003 SEC championship games. Simply, it's highly unlikely Auburn can neutralize Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and the Georgia rushing attack again. Like Auburn, the Georgia coaching staff has watched the film from the regular season matchup, and the Bulldogs are sure to be better prepared this time around. "I really don't know all the details, but I know he's going to give it everything he's got to get back out there".

"I would like to think so, and I would jump up and down, but that's a tall order".

A model of reliability, Johnson has rushed for 1,276 yards on 250 carries, without a single fumble.

"We've got to get Auburn into a situation where they don't have a clue whether we're running or throwing", Greene said. We're expecting their best.

Since losing a 20-0 lead in the second quarter during its eventual 27-23 loss at LSU on October 14, Auburn has not been plagued with similar issues. A lot of people come through Auburn, and a lot of people on that team that was out there Saturday playing.

Maybe this time Auburn (9-2, 7-1) is built for more than a one-year run. The Tigers also led Clemson 6-0 on September 9 before falling 14-6.

David Greene, who finished his Georgia career starting a record 52 games, drew a distinction in two games in particular.
