California Hospital Seeing 'Record Season' For Flu Patients, Doctor Says

It seems gifts weren't the only thing exchanged over the holiday season.

The California death toll is rapidly growing as this season's massive flu outbreak has left hospitals across the United States overcrowded and pharmacies running out of medication to treat the virus. And you need to deal with it.

The U.S.is in the midst of a "moderately severe" flu season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In comparison, three deaths were recorded for all age groups for the entire flu season a year ago, according to the Public Health Department.

Enloe Medical Center has seen a recent uptick in the number of patients with flu symptoms, communications and media coordinator Christina Chavira said, with 55 people with flu or flu-like illness admitted to the hospital since the beginning of December. In early 2017, 68 people died of the flu by February.

According to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, this is how widespread the virus is in Texas.

"It is not too late to get vaccinated".

Only shots are advised this year.

Figures from the NHS show that 1,078 have been admitted to hospital with flu since October across 19 NHS trusts - of those 252 people were diagnosed with "Aussie flu", a new mutation of the virus that first surfaced previous year.

In light of panic over reports of the vaccine's effectiveness, the CDC reported that it expects the American vaccine to be 32 percent effective against the H3N2 virus, but this week saw the flu become highly active in 21 states. No matter how healthy you are, you can catch the flu - that's why getting your annual flu shot is so important.

"Flu season is something that all school districts are concerned about, so we do everything we can to prevent people from missing school and that includes all our staff".

Over the weekend the Brecon Beacans and Telford both reported cases of Aussie flu, leaving just the Dorset town and the City clear of the deadly virus.

WELL, (ONCE AGAIN) IT CAN'T HURT: While you may not be prescribed it by a doctor, soup can ease flu symptoms and nourish your immune system, according to multiple studies. But you can also wind up with a bad fever, chills and more serious complications like pneumonia, bronchitis and sinus infections.

Flu shots are available at many locations, including the Vigo County Health Department. Individuals with the flu should stay home. But the shot itself can't infect you. "So, no, the cabin air won't get you sick".

The CDC asks everyone to fight back against influenza by helping prevent the spread of germs in general. If soap and water aren't available to wash your hands, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Anti-viral medication - like Tamiflu - will help lessen the symptoms of flu.

Grazier said that does not necessarily mean the flu season will be over soon.
