Isaiah Thomas didn't expect to have such an efficient debut

Thomas, who rose to stardom during his three seasons with Boston before the Celtics traded him to the Cavaliers in a deal that netted Kyrie Irving in the off-season, sat on the bench as his team-mates struggled against his old team.

In nine minutes with Thomas on the court and James off, the Cavaliers outscored the Trail Blazers 31-13. "Now that I'm back playing, y'all got something else to write about". Currently, the Cavs are one of the league leaders in offense and once they integrate Thomas fully into their starting line-up, they will certainly have one of the league's potent offenses.

He asked that the Celtics postpone a tribute video because, having just returned from a severe hip injury, he wasn't in uniform Wednesday and wanted to be honored on a night when he was playing and when his family could come and enjoy the event.

In Thomas' case, you smile.

Thomas also received praise from his former coach Brad Stevens, who had nothing but kind things to say of his former All-Star. "There was no way I was going to (make my return) against Boston (until I'm fully healthy)". They know what they gave up. In just 19 minutes off the bench, Thomas scored 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting and dished out three assists as the Cavs picked up a 127-110 victory over the Blazers.

The Cavaliers got a glimpse of what to expect from Isaiah Thomas Tuesday as their new point guard made his Cleveland debut in one of the most anticipated nights of the National Basketball Association season. One option would be the Cavs' next visit on February 11, which conflicts with the Celtics' plan to retire Paul Pierce's number that night.

In 19 minutes he scored 17 points, admitting after it was over that he got a little winded at times and was sore when he woke up the next morning. "And Isaiah deserves it, in our minds". But after his seven-month absence, he said playing Tuesday night against Portland was one of the most special moments of his career.

"You could tell that". It just added a different dynamic to our team.

Thomas tallied 17 points in 19 minutes of play as he embarks on a soft return to National Basketball Association action following injuries to his hip and shoulder. To not play is to not be alive. To Isaiah it was rejection and frankly, he'd already had a bellyful of that.

With 4:33 left in the first quarter, Thomas, wearing his familiar headband and No. 3, checked in to a loud ovation as Cleveland fans finally got to see a player they believe can help the three-time defending Eastern Conference champions win another title. "I nearly walked that way into their locker room (upon arriving)".

"Offensively, we got some good looks, but they just didn't fall for us", Love said.
I love this organization. They play 12 times on the road. Each goes to such great lengths to convince the world of how rarely they think of the other.

At one point after the trade, Thomas said he might not speak to Ainge again.

"Theres no hard feelings". I'm glad I'm back. "And that's for the rest of my life here".

OK. Fine. But what about toward the man who shipped you out?

"It was a special moment", Thomas said. But Thomas said Ainge reached out to him Tuesday night. He could have found my address somehow. Thomas described Ainge's praise for what he achieved with the Celtics as "bulls***". I will always remember tonight.

Even in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform, he's still that guy.
