Majority don't want Oprah to run

"What I re-posted was not an attack on Oprah at all", he adds. Unsurprisingly, the response was enthusiastic approval.

Meryl Streep told reporters at The Post premiere that she wants Oprah Winfrey to be president. The political neophyte has neither professional-level expertise in any particular policy area nor any knowledge of Beltway politics and the labyrinthine legislative process. And then he let his guest Mark Steyn do the real dirty work, recasting Winfrey's speech as something nearly diabolical: "She was crafty and cunning, the way she tied her personal story to this #MeToo business".

"So when are you going to post about Heidi Klum?" said another.

"I slept on it and came to the conclusion that the Oprah thing isn't that insane", tweeted Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior advisor to Barack Obama, the president whom Winfrey was credited with helping to elect in 2008.

The résumé the would-be candidate from IL brings to a presidential bid will prove far less important than the narrative she could weave. Clearly, she can speak (after all, she is an actress).

In her television program that ran for so many years, Oprah Winfrey intentionally, rather self-consciously, used the program in order to drive the moral revolution, not so much in the form of hard arguments as in the form of a soft power of entertainment and persuasion.

The picture of Oprah kissing Weinstein's cheek has been brought up as evidence that she had to have known. He said, "But the idea of a reality show star running against a talk show host is troublingly dystopian".

I do think Ms. Winfrey is stable and, like, really smart. The "Time's Up" theme of the gala referred to the campaign against sexual assault that has swept the nation, but it may just as easily have been a time's-up call against Donald Trump's tumultuous presidency.

In advance, the 71-year-old president pushed back vigorously against suggestions he is mentally unfit, declaring himself "a very stable genius". May calmer heads prevail.

Sanders and Biden, viewed as the top two contenders for the Democrats' spot in 2020, each beat out Winfrey and U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) in a four-way race, according to a RABA Research survey. They are there. On both sides.

In the past, Oprah has deflected questions as to whether she would run for president, but with President Trump's election and the widespread distrust of him among the Democratic party has bolstered such assumptions of her potential run.

It's been my hope that the Trump debacle would be an embarrassing footnote in our history - that we'd learn the lesson, repent and sin no more.

When asked by The Guardian newspaper if he believed Oprah had the qualifications necessary to become president, Steven said: "Does our current president?"
