Dolores O'Riordan sings Just my Imagine to fans at Trusts Stadium in West Auckland in 2012.

Dave Davies, singer of the popular American band, The Kinks, recalled his recent chat with the deceased singer, posting: "I'm really shocked that #DoloresORiordan has passed so suddenly - I was talking to her a couple weeks before Christmas she seemed happy and well - we even spoke about maybe writing some songs together - unbelievable god bless her".

"Irish and worldwide singer Dolores O'Riordan has died suddenly in London today, family members are devastated", Lindsey Holmes said in a statement.

"No further details are available at this time", the statement read. "I didn't hear anything, and I thought I'd go out and get fresh flowers for her and spruce up the studio a bit", he said. Four of the band's singles rank in the top five most-downloaded digital songs on Amazon's list, with "Linger" (up more than 150,000%) ranking second behind "I've Been Blind" by The Fratellis.

Holmes said the singer's family is "devastated" by the news.

In 2014, O'Riordan was accused of assaulting three police officers and a flight attendant during a flight from NY to Ireland.

After she pleaded guilty to headbutting and spitting at an Irish police officer in 2014, she told an interviewer that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was struggling with the breakdown of her marriage.

Medical reports produced for the trial revealed she had been suffering from mania, mental illness and severely impaired judgement at the time, and that she remembered nothing about it.

Ireland's President Michael D. Higgins said O'Riordan and The Cranberries "had an enormous influence on rock and pop music in Ireland and internationally". She is survived by her three kids - 20-year-old son Taylor, 16-year-old daughter Molly and 12-year-old daughter Dakota.

O'Riordan had been the lead singer of "The Cranberries" which originated in Limerick, since the 1990s. "How frightful and disgusting I am.' You have this awful self-loathing", she shared in 2013.

"My first time hearing Dolores O'Riordan's voice was unforgettable".

"We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores".

As a public figure, O'Riordan has had her share of controversies.

Her body was discovered just hours after she called music exec pal Dan Waite - and left him a voicemail sounding "full of life". "She blazed a trail across the world with her unique voice and also her talents in songwriting and our thoughts are with her, her family, her friends and people of Limerick in particular".

Driven by O'Riordan's genuine voice, varied melodies and unmistakable west Irish accent, the band succeeded to break into the rock music world, fiercely creating one of the most noticeable acts in the early-'90s.
