Gov. Bevin became visibly emotional when discussing the incident and praised the first responders who he said acted with "timeliness, effectiveness, and professionalism". "That student was apprehended at the scene".

Dr. Oscar Guillamondegui, the Trauma Team leader at Vanderbilt University Hospital, told WSMV in Nashville about the five male victims they treated.

One girl, who was close enough to the shooting scene that she saw bullets pinging off the walls, could barely speak, Garland said.

Of the four remaining victims at Vanderbilt, three are in critical but stable condition and one is in stable condition.

The suspect will be charged with two counts murder and multiple counts of attempted murder, according to Rick Sanders, Kentucky State Police commissioner. "It was a awful situation", said Bryson Conkwright.

"Someone was hitting on the window". And I'm just still there in shock, and I'm watching my friends and people that I've known forever, some people, just drop.

This is just the beginning of the grieving process for so many people as they come to terms with what happened. "We all started running toward the library office, and once we got in there, we just shut the lights off, sat down, locked the doors".

"If we had an intruder on campus, someone that does not belong, someone we see as a threat, we do immediately have lockdown procedures for that", Thomas said.

Before 8:44 a.m., law enforcement conducted a second sweep of the high school.

"All the parking lots were full with parents and kids hugging each other and crying and nobody really knowing what was going on", Kornbacher said.

In a statement released January 23 after the second shooting in two days, Cardinal DiNardo, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said Christians experience the pain of the family and friends of the victims "as if it were our own". Marshall County has a population of about 31,000 people.

Police in Marshall County, Kentucky haven't released the names of the shooter or the victims. "It is unbelievable that his would happen in a small, close-knit community like Marshall County".

Two 15-year-old students, a male and a female, were fatally shot by a fellow 15-year-old student armed with a handgun at Marshall County High School. The gunman was 14 years old.
