Zinedine Zidane Fighting For Job At Real Madrid Following Latest Loss

Friday, 26 Jan, 2018

Leganes lost the first leg 1-0, but secured their first win at the Bernabeu and a place in the semi-finals for the first time on away goals as the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate.

Madrid who had taken the first leg of the quarter-final 1-0 last week at Leganes, were however without both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale for the game against Leganes.

It means the Champions League is all Real Madrid have left to play for this season, with a two-legged Last-16 tie against PSG coming up. No, I'm angry with myself.

At the time of writing they are down in 4th, a staggering 19 points adrift of league leaders Barcelona - the same margin of points seperates Madrid from 18th-placed Deportivo La Coruna, who are in the relegation zone.

With this latest development, the Champions League is now the only "realistic" avenue for a silverware for Real Madrid this season.

"I'm not a big fan of changes", Ramos said.

Much of Zidane's success last season was built on the impressively managing of his entire squad, but he has been criticised for sticking to the same players this term. "I'm going to try to make the team better and that's it".

Zidane sent on Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal for Marcos Llorente and Achraf Hakimi with 20 minutes to go and Borja Mayoral went on for Isco soon after. But I will keep working, tomorrow is another day, and what we must do is pick ourselves up and think of Saturday's game [at Valencia]. "I am responsible for this, I'm the coach".

"I'm responsible for this, I'm the coach".

"It's very difficult to play in the Bernabeu in any situation and we knew to qualify would be a massive task, but we studied this game very hard". We're all to blame, but I'm the one who's responsible.

They have not won at Valencia's Mestalla stadium since 2013 and Zidane says he needs to find an answer to their current woes. "Today is a failure for me".

After becoming the first team to successfully defend the Champions League trophy, the consensus was that this was the beginning of a dynasty.

Zidane has since admitted his job at Real is on the line, but club captain Ramos has leapt to the Frenchman's defence.

"Cheer up team. Cheer up madridistas", Ronaldo wrote on Twitter.
