The FBI probe into corruption and bribery in college basketball reportedly shows potential NCAA rules violations at more than 20 schools. In a report released by Yahoo Sports on Friday, documents showed that Bridges' mother, Cynthia, received roughly $470 from Christian Dawkins, an associate of former National Basketball Association agent Andy Miller.
In the expense reports, Dawkins cited two items involving Cynthia Bridges.
The FBI's documents put Bridges' eligibility in question.
Three current criminal cases are tied to the investigation.
There was no indication in the report any such meeting took place. Bridges said he gave a statement to Michigan State's compliance office and said he believed his mother also gave a statement that led to the conclusion that the allegation is false. Down the line, he can expect to be interviewed by the NCAA, too. "They cleared him to play or I wouldn't have played him". This seems like a highly plausible move, but comes with risk. "But you'd have to ask our compliance people or the NCAA on that".
Sit Bridges until an NCAA investigation plays out.
Michigan State could rule Bridges ineligible, but issue an appeal to the NCAA that he did not know about the impermissible benefits and apply for reinstatement.
Michigan State has also been under scrutiny this season because of the scandal surrounding former university doctor Larry Nassar, who sexually assaulted dozens of girls and young women. The Spartans are in contention for a No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Bridges said he met with a compliance officer, but not with anyone from the NCAA or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. When asked in the locker room after the game, Bridges said his mother did not receive any benefits.
On Sunday, the opportunity to win the Big Ten regular season title outright was ahead of No. 2 Michigan State when the Spartans played Wisconsin. Former Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich was also dismissed.
Yahoo reported it did not view all of the documents the federal government possesses.
Stephens responded Saturday, saying he's been "committed to following all NCAA rules" during his career. Bridges scored 19 when Michigan State clinched a share of the Big Ten championship with a win over IL on Tuesday night. The amount of money spent ranges from simple meals to money in the tens of thousands. Though he carries a major name, he's a small part of an enormous torrent striking college basketball head-on. Sports report from Friday morning, it might even be bigger than many realize. There are scores of other agencies and agents in play.
Miles Bridges, a 6-foot-7 native of Flint, announced last April he would return to MSU for his sophomore season, despite potential to be a lottery pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. A win at Wisconsin would secure a Big Ten regular season championship for Tom Izzo's team. Also, a list of money given to college and high school players and their families. "If he was in here, I wouldn't know if he was here". "I know my teammates and my coaches have my back all the time". Bridges sealed the victory with his two free throws. "As Coach Izzo has stated, there is no evidence that he or anyone in his program, including student-athletes, did anything impermissible".
