Davis Jr. remains under guard at a hospital, where he was taken following his arrest early Saturday.
Yeagley declined to say whether drugs were found in Davis Jr.'s system.
It was unclear what kind of weapon Davis used or how he acquired it.
Several local law enforcement agencies had been searching throughout the day for Davis Jr.
The couple, who met while attending CMU, say incidents in their Mount Pleasant neighborhood are seldom more serious than a wandering intoxicated student.
Davis graduated from Plainfield Central High School in 2016 after attending Plainfield South High School for three years, according to Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez.
Parents arriving to pick up students before spring break were redirected to a hotel near campus while police continued the search for Davis.
CMU did confirm that it was James Davis Sr. and Diva Davis of Bellwood, Illnois who were slain in the incident. "The hurting will go on for a while", Ross said.

Armed officers, helicopters and tracking dogs searched into the night Friday throughout the city for Davis Jr. When officers tried to talk to him, he again wasn't making sense, Yeagley said, adding that the student was acting "in a fashion that isn't reasonable or logical".

CMU Police Lt. Larry Klaus told reporters that his officers "have not had any police assets lay eyes on him, and we have not had any calls from people in the community saying they've seen him", the Detroit Free Press reports.
"The mother said she too was concerned this could be drugs", he said.
Davis was released from the hospital on Friday morning, shortly before the shooting.
"Uniformed officers are beginning to assist individuals in leaving campus buildings". The university says the suspect is still at large, and police are urging students to take shelter.
The university said Friday morning that the report concerns Campbell Hall on its campus in Mount Pleasant.
