Protesters in California slam Trump visit

Trump is scheduled to fly into Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego County at 11:30 a.m., then head to Otay Mesa to view the 30-foot-tall border wall prototypes that have been erected there.

State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, led a Monday afternoon rally in Beverly Hills in advance of Trump's visit, denouncing the president's plans for a border wall and his immigration stances.

Shortly after landing, Trump told reporters that California Gov.

"You have to have see-through".

"If you don't have a wall system, you're not going to have a country", he said. "You go 32 feet up and you don't know who's over here".

For example, officials in the past have said border barriers ideally allow agents to see what's happening on the other side, so adversaries can't hide in the shadow of a wall.

"And I'll give you an example: As frightful as it sounds, when they throw the large sacks of drugs over, and if you have people on the other side of the wall, you don't see them - they hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff?"

But the president has shown far more interest in California's immigration policies than in its economic development. He said illegal crossings dropped after those fences, some of which are made of scrap metal, were built. "Do we need another trail of tears?" she said. "We are thrilled that he is going be here in our state".

Ahead of the visit, a few dozen people gathered for a pro-Trump rally on the United States side of the border, near the prototypes, but dispersed after a short while.

McCarthy also estimates the real price tag to complete the project as exceeding $60 billion.

The state's attorney general has filed over 20 lawsuits against the Trump administration. And that included local ordinances, such as sanctuary city declarations across the state, as well as state laws created to protect civil rights, natural resources and values like diversity and inclusion. The Justice Department recently sued over state laws that limit cooperation with immigration authorities, which state officials have harshly criticized.

"I think he is doing a lot of good, like protecting our Border Patrol", she said.

As CNN reports, Schwab accused Sessions and Acting Director Tom Homan of deliberately spreading misleading information after ICE slammed Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's decision to warn the public about upcoming ICE raids.

Aguilar said the president's travel route, details of which are never fully disclosed for security reasons, will be set by the U.S. Secret Service.

Trump lost the state by a wide margin in the 2016 presidential election and remains deeply unpopular there.

"I have a great relationship with the president of Mexico, wonderful guy Enrique", Trump said.

"We're not going to let President Trump get bullied around".

But experts say Trump shouldn't appear to choose any prototype as his favorite for fear of seeming to influence the rigid procurement process. "In any event, we'll handle it".

The hundreds expected at the San Ysidro rally will also hold up California immigration policies as ones that should be emulated on a national level - the same policies that have raised the ire of the Trump administration.

"We absolutely want President Trump to feel welcome and to come inspect the prototypes so we can get the wall built", he said.

Trump is expected to arrive Tuesday for his first visit to the state as president.

"It's amusing, it's the silent majority", said a man who came from San Diego State University.

"In California, we are focusing on bridges, not walls", Brown wrote. "What we need is action to ensure DACA recipients and their families are safe from deportation".

California is the country's most populous state and a Democratic stronghold.

Numerous rallies by groups for and against Trump are planned during his first visit to California as president.

He'll also address USA military personnel stationed near the border and attend the fundraiser in Los Angeles.
