Late Cinema Legend Sridevi Wins India's Top Acting Honor

Filmmaker and jury member Shekhar Kapur also told the media that late actress Sridevi wasn't chosen for the honour because of his relationship with her but due to her contribution to "Mom". We used to take a vote and it always came back to Sridevi.

Mom, which was produced by Boney Kapoor, saw Sridevi play a biology teacher who sets out to avenge her stepdaughter after she is raped. Despite its failings, Mom gave Sridevi many moments to suppress what her character feels but still be able to convey it all - something that she is peerless at - and this is exactly what made the whole thing worthwhile. "Baahubali toh aap sab jaante hai (everyone knows Baahubali)", Shekhar Kapoor said while awarding the film for Best Action-Direction.

However, when it came to content, regional films scored big.

The film marked Sridevi's 300th movie, as well as her final role.

I quit making Hindi films after Bandit Queen because the quality of films made here was very bad.

Director of the film, Ravi Udayawar, in regards to the win has stated: "She deserves it". "I want to expand the reach of film-making through online platforms".

"Kaccha Limbu" named best Marathi film, "Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum" best Malayalam film, "Mayurakshi" best Bengali film, "Ishu" best Assamese film; "To Let" best Tamil film, "Gazi" best Telugu film, and "DHH" best Gujarati film. It also won the best cinematography award. Actor Fahadh Faasil won the Best Supporting Actor award for the same film.
