ABC Cancels 'Roseanne' After Racist Twitter Rant From Its Star

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have chose to cancel her show", Dungey said.

It comes after star Roseanne Barr apologised for a racist tweet she made about former President Obama senior advisor Valerie Jarrett.

Barr, who has since apologized to Jarrett on Twitter, is facing intense backlash for her comments.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Barr has also been dropped by her agency, ICM Partners.

Valerie Jarrett spoke about the tweets directed at her by Roseanne Barr during an appearance on an MSNBC town hall on Tuesday.

The performer's social media posts quickly sparked an uproar online, with many people calling on ABC to act.

Barr recently shared how excited she was to get a phone call from the president congratulating the show's successful return in March. During the broadcast, she was asked about Barr's tweet.

Leading the charge was one of the canceled show's producers and stars, Sara Gilbert, who called the original tweet "abhorrent", adding that it didn't reflect the beliefs of the cast or crew. "We too make a show about a middle class family, come and watch us instead #speechless @Speechless_ABC", wrote Driver on Twitter. "Also, her context. Bill Maher's orangutan comment is a comparison of Trump's behavior and low intelligence that had nothing to do with race".

On Monday, one of her tweets said only "Chelsea Soros Clinton". Barr then said she's leaving Twitter. She noted they formed a pretty friendly alliance and Trump talked about her ratings success as a victory for the people who support him and his agenda.

'I am disappointed in her actions to say the least. At the network's presentation earlier this month to advertisers in New York, Barr had even taken the stage and introduced Ben Sherwood, president of ABC Television, giving him a hug and joking that Sherwood wrote her tweets.
