Trump says he feels 'unwelcomed' in London, blasts mayor Sadiq Khan

"I think he has not been hospitable to a government that is very important".

Mr Trump and Mrs May's talks at Chequers took place after the Sun published its wide-ranging interview with the president in which he was critical of the PM's Brexit plan.

The two leaders said they'd complete a trade deal between their countries as soon as the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, after Trump told the Sun newspaper in an interview published Thursday that an accord might not be possible because of her decision to maintain ties with the EU.

Trump went as far as to suggest that a "soft" Brexit could endanger any unilateral trade deal reached between the United States and the U.K.

"I don't think that's the case, and I think that the mood last night at the Blenheim dinner was so fantastically positive it focussed a lot on trade. I think he (Khan) has done a very bad job on terrorism", Trump told The Sun newspaper.

During the launch of the blimp, Sky News interviewed Mayor Khan questioning whether the blimp was an appropriate form of protest.

May and Trump are scheduled to hold talks and a joint news conference on Friday. "I think he has done a very bad job on terrorism", he said.

Trump's visit to Britain followed two days of a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Belgium, where the USA president shook up the conference with rhetoric about other members failing to meet fiscal defense requirements, the possibility that he could end the United States' 70-year membership in the alliance and Germany being "captive" to Russian energy. Trump said the discussion "was really something". Donald Trump has launched an astonishing attack on the British Prime Minister over her handling of Brexit, hours before touching down in the UK.

Mr Trump is due to face a press conference later in the day. "The real reason Trump blames my friend @SadiqKhan for the terror attacks past year is simple", he tweeted. "But when they make you feel unwelcome, why would I stay there?" I actually told Theresa May how to do it but she didn't agree, she didn't listen to me. He then reminded the press that his mother was from Scotland.

He said the way she is proposing to break from the European Union might hurt the USA -U.K. trade relationship.

The US President along with First Lady Melania Trump were given a red carpet reception after they were earlier greeted by 1,000 protesters outside the US ambassador's residence in Regent's Park.

When asked what he hopes to accomplish in his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Trump said they would be talking about Ukraine, Syria and other parts of the Middle East as well as nuclear proliferation.

Trump blamed the city's woes on immigration, and said it was a "shame" Europe was letting in so many migrants.

"I'd like to see them be able to work it out so it could go quickly", he said.
