Liverpool newcomer Keita grateful for Sturridge support

Liverpool underlined their Premier League title credentials with a comprehensive 4-0 defeat of West Ham at Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes his players have to summon the spirit of Rocky Balboa if they are to close the gap to defending Premier League champions Manchester City. "We realised it was a very positive atmosphere around us in pre-season".

"I feel as though we can form a really tight group, working together to support each other".

"We are still Rocky Balboa and not Ivan Drago, we are the ones who have to do more and fight more, that must be our attitude. We can achieve good things together". "Obviously he was not feeling really well so we sent him home again and I didn't see him so far and I didn't ask anybody, so we will see", Klopp said of the Brazilian.

"West Ham will play a good season but they are not the (Manchester) Uniteds or (Manchester) Citys. They know that, we know that and we have to be ready week in week out for the different challenges".

Substitute Daniel Sturridge made it four just seconds after coming on.

Like ourselves, I think Liverpool have had a very good transfer window, and I would rank them in the top 3 in the PL in terms of their business this summer.

West Ham head to Anfield on the back of four wins and two draws from their last six friendlies and, if the new boys can gel when the real stuff starts, a promising campaign awaits.

Salah and Sadio Mane were able to join the club's pre-season tour in the United States are being knocked out in the group stages in Russian Federation with Egypt and Senegal, while Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Keita, Fabinho and James Milner had the summer off.

"You can not test it until you have the test".

Therefore, steering clear of that this year, playing some attractive football and ending with a comfortable top 10 finish along with a good cup run would probably be enough to appease many of our fans, with the ambition to progress season upon season from there.

However, there was little tinkering for Klopp to do up front after Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino combined for 91 goals last season, and they again provided the firepower to outclass a sorry West Ham despite their own near £100 million outlay on nine new players.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss said: "Thank you, Jurgen".

Despite being clearly offside - and with no VAR in the Premier League this season - Mane added a second when he turned and finiahed past debutant Fabianski despite being a clear yard offside.

They reached the final of the Champions League and bought a lot of new players.

Despite Liverpool's dominance, chances were hard to come by for the hosts as they were let down by their final ball on a few ocassions.

An emphatic 4-0 victory was the flawless way to begin that quest for glory.

"Should I be asked at some point and I'm available, then I would think about it", Klopp told Welt am Sonntag.
