Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams has declined to comment on why Katz opened fire inside a gaming bar connected to a pizzeria at The Jacksonville Landing, a collection of restaurants and shops along the St. Johns River. The culprit was dead on the scene.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and federal authorities held a news conference Monday afternoon giving more details about the man they said shot two people to death and injured almost a dozen before taking his own life. Williams said people trampled each other trying to get away.

Investigators believe Katz was in Jacksonville for the Madden 19 tournament, a video game competition and that he might have stayed in town Saturday night. While was not as established an e-sports or Madden star as Clayton, the gamer who played under the name "Spotmeplzz" won 72 percent of the Madden games he had participated in.

Clayton was saving his winnings from competitive gaming to pay for college, Pettijohn said. "I think, personally, I'm one of the better players - and I like to let my game prove that".

A livestream from the event shows what appears to be a red dot flash across one of the players' chests seconds before the first shots ring out.

Marquis Williams, 28, and his girlfriend, Taylor Poindexter, 26, both from Chicago, were ordering pizza at the bar when they heard the gunfire. Police also said local authorities were responding in Baltimore to the suspect's residence for further investigation. He then shot and killed himself. He didn't know who had been shot, if the gunman was still taking aim or where it was safe to run.

He said he was once at a tournament where another gamer was screaming in his face and there was no security to intervene.

Police said there was no indication Katz planned his shooting prior to Sunday. "We did see him with two hands on a gun, walking back just popping rounds".

The mass shooting at The Jacksonville Landing killed two and injured 10 others. "I will never take anything for granted ever again". I am literally so lucky.

"Worst day of my life", gamer Drini Gjoka wrote on Twitter.

"He was weird all weekend, I mean he had shades on, he just - he didn't speak to anybody", the man said. Police stressed the investigation is ongoing, and a motive has not yet been determined.

President Donald Trump has been briefed and is monitoring the situation in Jacksonville, the White House said.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry also released a statement following the shooting.

Earlier on Twitter, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office had urged people hiding in locked areas of The Landing to stay in place and ca ll 911 to make their location known.
