Trump Reportedly Rejected White House Statement Praising Life Of John McCain

Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the a year ago, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John's many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers.

U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly rejected plans to issue a White House statement that would have paid tribute to the heroism of Republican Senator John McCain, preferring instead to issue a brief tweet.

Just hours before the death of US Senator John McCain, a onetime political rival suggested that his decision to end cancer treatment could have been a political move created to hurt her campaign. This is about a man who constantly talks about supporting veterans and armed forces, and then repeatedly insults a man who was held as a prisoner of war for five and half years.

Short said he personally considers McCain "an American hero who served our country nobly".

Opposition leader and former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said, "John McCain was not only an American hero, but a hero to many all over the world".

In his final months, McCain did not go quietly, frequently jabbing at Trump and his policies from the remove of his Hidden Valley family retreat in Arizona.

McCain, 81, died at his ranch in Arizona after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

"Condolences to senator and war veteran John McCain, who greatly contributed to the normalization of Vietnam-U.S. relations", said one message in Vietnamese that was left at the sculpture and attached to a bouquet of flowers on Monday.

My father is gone, and I miss him as only an adoring daughter can. Our hearts and prayers are with you!"-but it's the Instagram version of that sentiment that's getting all the attention".

Rick Davis, a spokesman for the McCain family, said that the focus should be on remembering McCain's life and legacy.

More John McCain disrespect from Donald Trump - who refused to even acknowledge the late senator in front of reporters Monday at the White House.

Since December, he never returned to the Senate as he underwent treatment in Arizona, where he kept a low profile, issuing written statements on major news developments but offering the public few glimpses of his condition.

I have asked Vice President Mike Pence to offer an address at the ceremony honoring Senator McCain at the United States Capitol this Friday.

Two days later, he will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, where he made his legislative mark as an outspoken, maverick Republican senator for 32 years. President Trump, however, was not invited to speak.

Trump and McCain had a tense relationship, and McCain was one of the administration's most outspoken Republican critics.
