Champions League: Mourinho’s Man United misfire in Valencia stalemate

Wednesday, 03 Oct, 2018

Valencia lost 2-0 to 10-man Juventus in their opening fixture.

Jose Mourinho showed uncharacteristic restraint and bit his tongue after Manchester United's poor form continued with a meek goalless draw against Valencia.

Jose Mourinho was furious after Manchester United arrived late for their own home game, turning up just 45 minutes before the scheduled kick-off at Old Trafford.

Just as previous games gone by, United saw a lot of the ball in the early stages of the first half but they were unable to threaten the Valencia goal.

After that Mourinho takes on Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

"The players tried. They raised the level of their efforts", Mourinho said.

The Argentinean was able to play a major role in the famous Hammers win at the weekend and his comments on the state of Manchester United were stunning in their bluntness.

Confidence is low at Old Trafford with United having made their worst start to a league season for 29 years. He knows that getting to the stadium is by no means straightforward, particularly during rush hour. His team selection and set up was freaky considering the improved performances in the last two away games.

Failure to win will only serve to increase the pressure on Mourinho's position, with the United boss odds-on favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Shaw has endured a torrid time at United under the Portuguese coach, but this season has finally seem him nail down a regular starting spot at left-back and he is playing on merit. "There are things it is hard for me to say, I do not want to attract any more criticism for being too open", he said.

"Freedom of speech, especially Manchester United fans that I respect 200 percent", he said.
