Kershaw, Dodgers shut out Braves again to take 2-0 NLDS lead

Saturday, 06 Oct, 2018

Three thoughts on a breezy NLDS Game 2-the Dodgers won, 3-0, to take a 2-0 series lead as the teams head to Atlanta-that featured Clayton Kershaw at his finest and Yasiel Puig kissing Charlie Culberson...

The Dodgers backed him up with three home runs. Two hits. No walks. "He was in complete control".

The young Atlanta Braves never got into the swing in their NL Division Series opener, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-0.

The Dodgers set franchise and National League records by hitting 235 homers during the regular season, and their tear continued with three more to begin their playoffs. He did deliver a key triple for the Dodgers in their final regular-season series, and on Friday night had his first postseason moment with the club.

The Dodgers explosive batting order did not skip a beat from the regular season.

Kershaw ran out to the mound as though he was going to pitch the ninth, bringing cheers from the sellout crowd of 54,452. But when Roberts went out to pull his ace after 85 pitches, fans booed. Unfortunately for the fans, Dave Roberts ultimately chose to bring in Kenley Jansen when Tyler Flowers came on to pinch-hit to start the inning.

Braves starter Anibal Sanchez (0-1) gave up three runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings with a walk and three strikeouts. Turner followed Pederson's homer with a double and Muncy walked.

The Dodgers are in full command of this series now: The 2-0 lead, the playoff experience, the extreme depth, the well-rested bullpen and, at the end of the day, the knowledge that a three-time Cy Young Award victor can still suspend space and time and remind the world why he's heading to Cooperstown.

No matter how well Kershaw pitches, the question that will always come up with him will center around his postseason performance.

Kershaw was sharp on defence, too.

Ryu even collected his first career postseason hit with a single in the fourth. He worked around a double to lead off the game by Ronald Acuna Jr. and a comebacker off his right leg in the fifth inning by Ozzie Albies.

Freddie Freeman was hitless with a strikeout in four at-bats. "I don't see any need to put any unnecessary pressure on ourselves", he said.

With their season on the line, the NL East champion Braves are likely to start RHP Kevin Gausman on Sunday. "But as of right now, if everything goes where it is, he'll be the Game 3 starter".

The 20-year-old Acuna reached on shortstop Manny Machado's error to lead off the sixth but was caught stealing when he missed a sign from third base coach Ron Washington.

"Typically we're not a team that strikes out a lot, and I think that just the fastball command really kept us off-balance the whole night", Braves manager Brian Snitker said. He manages to say "Thanks" as he shakes Machado;s hand. The long ball is effective for now, but it will be something to keep an eye on in the playoffs.
