The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody caused a big upset when it took home not only Best Actor for Rami Malek but also for Best Picture. Singer, who was sacked late in production for alleged on-set behavior but remains the credited director on the film, has a history of accusations of sexual assault that spans more than two decades.

The award-winning film is packed with Queen and Freddie Mercury tunes as it tells the story of the front-man's incredible life, set to a soundtrack of chart hits.

"What an honour. Thank you", he captioned the image after the Sunday night ceremony.

Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King also addressed the crowd at the Beverly Hilton.

While nominations won't be announced until January 22, it's highly likely that Rami Malek, Bradley Cooper and Vice's Christian Bale will be contenders in the Best Actor category.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" director Bryan Singer, who's been accused of sexual assaulting a minor, caused an uproar on social media after the film won big at the Golden Globe Awards.

As he reached the stage to jointly accept the award for best picture (drama), the actor reached out to presenter Kidman with open arms.

He dedicated his award to his "extraordinary, wonderful wife Catherine" - that's Catherine Zeta Jones - and his 102-year-old father Kirk.

The Golden Globe Awards was hosted by Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg and Killing Eve's Sandra Oh.

Sandra Oh won best actress in a TV drama for Killing Eve, the unconventional crime drama that started out on BBC America.

He thanked Mercury and the fellow Queen members in his acceptance speech.
