Kristin Kasinskas called 911, and relayed to the dispatcher from Jayme the name of the alleged captor - 21-year-old Jake Thomas Patterson - and the color of his auto.

Jake Thomas Patterson, a 21-year-old man killed a Wisconsin couple in a baffling scheme to kidnap Jayme Closs, their teenage daughter, then held the girl captive for three months before she narrowly managed to escape and reach safety as he drove around looking for her, authorities said.

She was due to be reunited with her extended family later on Friday.

Smart called Closs fearless, strong, and a powerful survivor - but also says there is a long road ahead.

While the young man worked at the same meat processing plant as Jayme´s parents almost three years ago, he did so for only one day and police said there is no evidence that there was any contact between them.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune quoted a teacher at a local school as saying a neighbour walking her dog had knocked on her door after having found Jayme. He faces an initial court hearing on Monday.

"She got to sleep in her own bed last night", he said. Police said Patterson had ties to Barron but did not elaborate.

Investigators have said Patterson's goal was to kidnap Jayme, but he appears to have no connection to the family.

The sheriff said they found a number of weapons at his home, including a shotgun that resembled the one used to shoot open the Closs´s front door in the middle of the night on October 15 and kill Jayme´s parents James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46. Jayme, officials said, had escaped from a home while Patterson was out.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said Mr Patterson has no criminal history in the state of Wisconsin.

Less than 15 minutes after Closs' rescue, Patterson was taken into custody after police pulled him over, based on Closs' description of his vehicle.

Jayme told the woman she had escaped from a cabin where she was being held, not far from Ms Nutter's home.

The sheriff said that he did not know whether Jayme had been physically abused.

Jayme's grandfather, Robert Naiberg, told the AP on Friday that he'd been praying for months for the call he received Thursday about his granddaughter being found alive.

Officials reported Jayme missing on October 15 when deputies discovered the bodies of her parents in their Wisconsin home.

Naiberg, Jayme's grandfather, said he spent a few hours with her on Friday.

"I told Jayme, 'I am so happy to see you, ' that was all I could think to say to her", Peter Kasinskas said. The only link between them is that Jake worked for a single day at the Jennie-O turkey plant where Jayme's parents were employed for 27 years. We believe he acted alone.

She said her reaction was "just disbelief - kind of shock that a kid we all knew could have done this".

Patterson took such measures as shaving his head beforehand to avoid leaving evidence at the scene, the sheriff said.

Jake Thomas Patterson has been jailed on kidnapping and homicide charges. "I mean, it's sad when you hear a story that your child is deceased, I don't want to hear that".

"I'm going to give her the biggest hug and tell her that I'm here for her and that I love her very much", she said on the morning show.
