Grizzlies offers fond farewell to Gasol

Sunday, 10 Feb, 2019

It was reported earlier this week that the Raptors had offered Lowry and center Jonas Valanciunas to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.

Gasol has career averages of 15.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 blocked shots a game for the Grizzlies.

The Raptors, 40-16, are 1.5 games behind Milwaukee for the top record in the Eastern Conference while the Grizzlies, 22-34, have the second-worst record in the Western Conference, 8 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the last playoff spot. After a bit of a slow start to the day, we've got our first really big trade of the day. Gasol has two years left on the five-year, $113-million deal he signed with the Grizzlies in 2015.

The trade is not yet official, but who's kidding who, when Woj reports it, it's a done deal. I don't think there's one thing I can say or do [to change that]. However, news of Valančiūnas' return was quickly disrupted after news broke that he had been traded to Memphis Grizzlies.

The team plans to aggressively pursue options who have been, or will be, made available in the buyout market, the Raptors president said during his post-deadline press conference.

Stauskas serves as another option the Raptors' could look into in hopes of filling the team's need for an additional long range threat. He can become a free agent this summer by opting out of the final year of his $25.5 million contract for the 2019-20 season.

Wright, 26, is averaging 6.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 49 games this season.

With the addition of Gasol, the Raptors have reshaped their roster along with the offseason acquisition of two-time Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard.

Miles, who turns 32 in March, is averaging 10 points per game off the bench for Toronto.
