Samsung launches folding smartphone in bid to rev up market

It's essentially the Korean firm's take on the iPhone XR and marks the first time that Samsung has offered buyers an "affordable" model alongside its top of the range Galaxy S and S Plus flagships, no doubt in a bid to help to reverse its slowing smartphone sales. The company's first foldable smartphone.

Folding or expanding devices have been predicted by science fiction for decades.

When folded, the phone looks like a standard mobile device and features a 4.6 inch display.

As the name's a foldable phone. For me the most exciting part is that you can use this thing as a relatively small 4.6-inch phone.

Check back soon for our full Samsung Galaxy S10e review. The hinge is made of multiple gears and is a lovely piece of tech, which Samsung promises will close with a satisfying click.

That's the phones out the way, but handsets aren't all Samsung has unveiled, as we've also seen the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active.

The new Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner is built right into the screen, near the bottom where it's easy to access.

The devices will be available in Prism White, Prism Black, Prism Green, Prism Blue, Canary Yellow and Flamingo Pink. Don't like the paintjobs off the shelf?

Do you plan on shelling out a whopping $2,607 CAD (as of writing) for the Galaxy Fold? It has 12GB of memory, an all new processor and 512GB of storage as well as support for external media.

CCN previously reported that a Samsung insider leaked photos allegedly depicting a Galaxy S10 with a native crypto wallet.

There are actually two batteries inside the phone's two shells. All of this is powered by two batteries with a combined capacity of 4,380mAh. The headphones include wireless charging, a feature that Apple has promised to put into is competing AirPods but has not yet released.

According to the second image, the Galaxy Fold will sport slim bezels.

It has a total of six cameras on board, combining anything and everything that Samsung has in its sleeve.

The rear camera array is comprised of a 16-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide camera, a 12-megapixel wide-angle shooter with f/1.5 - f/2.4 aperture, dual pixel AF and optical image stabilization and a 12-megapixel telephoto f/2.4 aperture camera, also with OIS.

You may in fact choose to get one of the three new Galaxy S10 phones instead.

And here's the Galaxy Fit fitness tracker.

It "opens smoothly and naturally, like a book, and closes flat and compact with a satisfying click" using a "sophisticated hinge with multiple interlocking gears".

With the phone open, the Fold can multitask three apps in different windows simultaneously.

The Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ will be available for pre-order tomorrow (Feb. 21). We will update this post when we get more information from retailers.

Moreover, the panel in question is flat, meaning it does not come with Samsung's signature curved design. Yep, the cutting edge of technology does cost a pretty penny!
