Leicester confirm appointment of Rodgers as manager

Leicester fired Claude Puel on Monday (NZT) and Celtic said on Wednesday the club was approached about Rodgers.

"As projects, including the development of our new training ground and the proposed expansion of King Power Stadium continue to take shape, and as a young squad of great potential begins to mature, Brendan and his colleagues arrive at an exciting time for Leicester City".

Gerrard, now a rival of Rodgers, worked with the 46-year-old at Liverpool and rates him highly, meaning the interest from the Foxes comes as no surprise.

"The players have been absolutely exceptional over the last two-and-a-half, three years and all I want to do is carry that on", he said. This is a very special club, very special support.

The Celtic fans are in a state of shock over Rodgers leaving with a title still to be won but Lennon has told the players they can not get distracted.

"All I want to do is carry that on - it's not broken and I'm not coming in and looking to revolutionise anything".

Former Watford, Reading and Swansea manager Rodgers took charge of Liverpool in 2012 and in the 2013-14 season, came agonisingly close to ending the club's title drought before Manchester City pipped his side on the final day of the season.

"I'll be leaning on (assistant manager) John Kennedy a lot, he knows the machinations, and I'll be relying on John very much so".

Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has slammed Brendan Rodgers' decision to join Leicester in a series of posts on Twitter.

"Of course the game is won and lost at both ends and at the moment we're not putting away opportunities and so we have to make sure we're not conceding".

'Tonight we've got a really tough game against Hearts. With Rodgers quitting Celtic, the Scottish Cup could open up.

He told Celtic TV: "There's a chasm to fill with Brendan leaving". Brendan has his way and it has been fantastic, I have my way.
