General Session of AIPAC Policy Conference 2019

Hoyer even slammed Omar, his Democratic Party colleague, in a speech at the conference on 24 March, pledging to maintain unequivocal USA support for Israel.

"They say you can't be a good progressive and supporter of Israel, and now they're saying you can't even be a good American and be a supporter of Israel".

"Netanyahu is in an alliance with Otzma Yehudit, referred to as the KKK of Israel, '" she said. He made a decision to cut his visit short after a rocket fired from Gaza injured at least seven people and destroyed a residential home in central Israel.

Regarding extremists outside of Israel, Gantz insisted that he "will not hesitate" to use force against when necessary, particularly when it comes to Iran and its various proxies.

Netanyahu had been due to address AIPAC in person, but he returned to Israel on Tuesday, two days ahead of schedule, after a rocket attack from Gaza wounded seven people in a village north of Tel Aviv.

Omar in particular has faced charges of anti-Semitism for her comments criticizing AIPAC's role in advocating for pro-Israel policies. She told him that, "They hate us".

Following Hoyer's lead, Vice President Mike Pence called for Omar's removal from the House Foreign Affairs Committee in his AIPAC speech today.

"The U.S. and Israel should stand as one and will always stand as one". Shortly after her apology for that tweet, Omar suggested in a public statement that lawmakers held a dual loyalty to the US and Israel.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) hit back at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) following the speaker's comments during a Tuesday speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference where she condemned the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel. The measure included a defence of AIPAC.

Several top Republicans have also recently accused Democrats of showing dwindling support for Israel - a strategy that analyst say aims to exploit divisions within the party ahead of the 2020 presidential elections. "We will never allow anyone to make Israel a wedge issue".

But in the Minneapolis-centered Minnesota 5th Congressional district that Omar represents, the nation's largest Somali-American community sees the controversy differently.

Omar has remained defiant in the fact of criticism at AIPAC.

"I stand with Israel, proudly and unapologetically", said Hoyer. "I have criticized it because it has repeatedly opposed efforts to guarantee peace and human rights in the region". Pence also assailed Democrats as a whole for failing to advance anti-BDS legislation on Capitol Hill.

Senator Bob Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat and senior member of Senate Foreign Relations, warned Republicans against tagging Democrats unfairly as anti-Semitic and he offered a veiled shot at Trump.

"We recognize that she didn't necessarily take that action with as much care as one would expect from a politician", Wurman said. Though she called for supporting Israel fervently and affirmed "the right of Jewish people to national self-determination", she said nothing about Palestinian rights, nothing about the Palestinian right to defend themselves or have freedom of movement. "Israel relationship has to remain strong", regardless of political party, said House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, a Jewish Democrat from NY.
