Giants Fans Lose Their Minds After G-Men Draft Daniel Jones at No

General Manager Dave Gettleman of the New York Giants during the pregame against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on December 23, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The New York Jets took Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams with the No. 3-overall pick.

Gettleman had other thoughts. He led the Blue Devils to a 8-5 record this past season and a second consecutive bowl game.

"Who knows? I may go out there in my vehicle and get hit", said Gettleman about the risk.

Drafting a trio of plug-and-play starters after trading back into the first round would've followed the blueprint Gettleman presented to fans following Beckham's controversial ouster.

The Giants had the chance to draft this player, or even Haskins, and they passed on both of them in order to take a player that was only mocked to the team by most as the possible number 17 overall pick. Allen could be a generational pass rusher and that remains one of New York's biggest needs heading into Friday and Saturday. They might have been surprised by the Dolphins snatching away Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins with the 13th pick, but regardless, this was a puzzling first round for Atlanta. Jones is now their clear successor to Eli Manning.

Gettleman spoke with Manning after making the pick and told him: "It's your job, let's roll".

Obviously, the conversation changes if Jones is a stud out of the gates and grabs the keys of the offense from Manning's grasp as quickly as this summer.

According to GiantsWire, Jones stated, "I'm certainly thrilled to be in NY and I can't wait to get started", Jones also said. "My accuracy is a strength of mine and I have the athleticism to extend plays". Duke coach David Cutcliffe has already talked to him and says "he's fine" and willing to do whatever is best for the Giants.

"Maybe we're going to be the Green Bay model, where Rodgers sat for three years".

As beat reporter Art Stapelton pointed out, there were, regardless of what many who don't work in the National Football League would lead you to believe, zero guarantees Jones would have been there for Big Blue at No. 17.

Lawrence is massive in the middle, much like Snacks Harrison, who NY traded to Detroit during last season.

Pushed to explain why, if he thinks Manning can play multiple seasons in NY, he didn't get a player that would help Eli in the short term, Gettleman obfuscated. He said Thursday night he was innocent.

Dave Gettleman said the Giants had a second-round grade on Ximines and he contemplated trading up to grab him but chose to stay put.

It's the second straight year the Giants have picked a Georgia player, as they selected linebacker Lorenzo Carter last year in the third round.

When asked about having two interceptions last season, Baker said it's hard to get picks when opposing quarterbacks don't test him.
