Buffalo Bills release six-time Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy

Monday, 02 Sep, 2019

"LeSean McCoy started his day as a Bill, ended it as a Chief, and now has a chance to try to help his former HC win their first Super Bowl together", ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote on Twitter.

The deal is for one year with $3 million guaranteed. McCoy spent the last four seasons with the Bills after beginning his career with the Eagles.

McCoy left Philadelphia after the 2014 season to sign with Buffalo on a five-year deal.

Kansas City is set to open the 2019 season on Sunday, Sept. 8 against Jacksonville.

The veteran back has rushed for 10,606 yards and 69 touchdowns while catching 475 passes for 3,616 yards and 15 touchdowns over 10 seasons. The 31-year-old was a star with the Eagles during that time, which included a standout 2011 season when he ran for 1,309 yards and scored a career single-season high 17 touchdowns on the ground. So I really like how he's come in and who he is.

Also cut were two former Panthers who played under McDermott during his days as defensive coordinator with Carolina, safety Kurt Coleman and cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, 10- and 11-year veterans, respectively. And my teammates know that. "I'm sure he's a guy we'll take a peek at and we kind of have a rapport with".

McCoy, who was released by the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, is a free agent. That's when they selected Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy in the second round of the draft. However, it will be interesting to see how many touches McCoy is given in a backfield that already features Damien Williams, impressive rookie Darwin Thompson and Darrel Williams. "I have nothing but great things to say about LeSean and we truly wish him the best". During that time, McCoy went over 1,000 total yards three times. The Chiefs have embraced a more wide-open style under MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and that means McCoy will have a steep learning curve if he expects to be active against the Jaguars next weekend.
