Saturday's shooting came after 22 people were killed at a Walmart store about 255 miles west of Midland in the city of El Paso, Texas on August 3.

After failing to use his signal, the shooter was pulled over by Texas troopers in Midland on Saturday afternoon.

Ator had a thin criminal record in Texas and police say he had no active warrants when he fled a routine traffic stop that began the rampage. The driver opened fire with an assault-style rifle - hitting and wounding a trooper - before driving off.

Those killed ranged in age from 15 to 57, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said at a news conference.

At one point, the suspect hijacked a postal service van, killing a postal worker, and continued his shooting spree. "And I believe that was when the shooter was killed".

Investigators are now combing through 15 different crime scenes and multiple cars, FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs said.

The officials spoke to The Associated Press on Sunday but were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. His sister Maria Arco, told the Arizona Republic that her brother moved to Texas from Las Vegas in 2017 following a deadly shooting at a music festival, hoping it would be a safer place to live. "I tried calling her name and she wouldn't answer", she said.

"She is alive. When others today are not alive", Anderson's mother said in a statement shared on the GoFundMe page. "She was very friendly and was always smiling".

One Midland police officer and one state law enforcement official were in surgery for non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Sunday he had received a message from the girl's mother, who he said told him, "Toddlers are amusing, because they can get shot but still want to run around and play". "I'm not going to give him any notoriety for what he did", Gerke said. Seven were in critical condition, two serious, and two were treated and released.

"That's when he shot the officer and then took off and started shooting randomly", Morales said. Adjudication was deferred, though the details of the case were not immediately available.

According to online records, Seth Ator is from Lorena, Texas.

Edwin Peregrino, 25, was killed when he heard gunshots outside his parents' home to check it out, according to his sister, Eritizi Peregrino, The shooter was driving by the house and opened fire, reported The Washington Post. Authorities are still investigating how he obtained the firearm.

On Facebook, the department added: "We believe there are two shooters in two separate vehicles".

HB 121 provides a legal defense for licensed gun owners who unknowingly enter establishments with signage dictating guns are prohibited if the person promptly leaves after being asked.

Authorities say the shooter, a white male in his 30s, was known to police and lived locally but there is no apparent link to terrorism.

Police, motorists and shoppers were all caught up in the chaos that unfolded between the cities of Odessa and Midland during a busy holiday weekend.
