During the meeting, the prime minister said that the global community should take serious cognisance of the situation in occupied Kashmir as well as the region. "They do not consider Muslims as equal citizens", Khan said.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran held a meeting with Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth on the sidelines of the UNGA. Although Nepal was supposed to hand over the chair to Pakistan in the 19th SAARC Summit, which was scheduled for 2016 in Islamabad, the summit was canceled amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. "And we do not find any effort by Pakistan taking those steps", Mr. Gokhale had said. PM Modi on the other hand is unlikely to speak on Kashmir, as part of India's stand that it is a bilateral issue.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, ranked three spots lower than PM Khan. It also called for a closed-door meeting over Kashmir in the United Nations.
"This is the UN's job", he said, adding, "They have to intervene, send observers there".
Khan would raise the issue again at an upcoming OIC meeting, and thanked Turkish President Erdogan for mentioning Kashmir. But I would certainly want to help if both India and Pakistan would want to do that.
India, which says its revocation of Kashmir's special status will allow the region to develop economically, has long accused Pakistan of training, arming and sending militants to Kashmir.
Khan has strongly criticized New Delhi's actions in Kashmir in an worldwide diplomacy campaign and cut off trade ties, but has condemned the plan to storm the LOC.
On Pakistan's reaction, the external affairs minister said that Pakistan's reaction on the abrogation of Article 370 reflects its frustration and anger.
"Modi speaks before Khan and Indians have stated the prime minister doesn't intend to" get in the subway with Pakistan" and splitting from ritualistic exchanges in the UNGA, he'll concentrate, instead, on more significant a longer pressing challenges which confront the planet as a growing global power. "I am sure he will take care of it". And I'll tell you why I do that.
Speaking to reporters in New York, Khan blamed India's emergence as a large market for this, stating that countries were viewing India as consumer base of over a billion people, news reports quoted him as saying.
"We are doing very well". The two countries are negotiating a trade package to iron out issues and promote the two-way commerce. "We are trying our best", he said.
A day earlier, Trump had shared a stage with Modi at a political event attended by more than 50,000 in the southern U.S. city of Houston.
During a recent meeting, the U.S. president praised Prime Minister Imran calling him a "great leader", a "good man" and a "good athlete".
