During an energy forum in Moscow, the Russian president hinted that the 16-year-old climate change activist had been manipulated to make unrealistic demands during her passionate speech to the United Nations last month, BGNES reported.

Greta Thunberg took the world by storm and nobody saw it coming.

Ladbrokes spokeswoman Jessica O'Reilly said: "It's hard to argue against the impact Thunberg's actions have had globally, and that's reflected in her odds as the favourite".

The president is a noted climate change skeptic who has resisted large-scale solutions to what scientists describe as an escalating threat to the world.

Thunberg plans on Friday to join demonstrators in Iowa, after protests in NY and Montreal.

The first, of course, was President Trump who received one of Greta's trademark death glares when he made a surprise appearance at a United Nations climate summit. I guess they must simply feel so threatened by us. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. Must never allow ourselves to give up.

Almost 70 countries announced plans to beef up their Paris climate agreement pledges, but most major economies including the United States and China failed to announce stronger new measures. "You must include the full picture". Demonstrators reportedly called for the University of Iowa and the city to operate on clean energy by 2030.

Thunberg has become the focus of conservative backlash against the climate change movement.

The Waterloo School District says it put Waterloo West High School teacher Matt Baish on leave so it can investigate the comment.

Students in Iowa City said Thunberg's visit was a testament to their efforts to demand change from local leaders. "And that is not something you can continue to ignore".

"Well over 7 million people joined the climate strikes", Thunberg said.
