United States basketball star Kobe Bryant killed in helicopter crash

As first reported by TMZ, five people including Bryant were killed on Sunday after his private helicopter went down in Calabasas, about 65 kilometres northwest of Los Angeles. The LA County Sheriff's Department confirmed five dead in the crash, but had not released identities.

Kobe Bryant was killed on Sunday morning in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, E! "One of the all-time greatest Lakers". He had scored a whopping 33,643 points throughout his career, which he spent entirely with the Lakers before retiring in 2016. It is not believed that Bryant's wife, Vanessa Bryant, was not on board. The Los Angeles Times newspaper said that the Sikorsky S-76 helicopter crashed due to foggy weather.

The Lakers retired both of Bryant's shirt numbers - eight and 24 - in a ceremony in December 2017, when then franchise president Magic Johnson said: "We're here to celebrate the greatest who has ever worn the purple and gold".

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Bryant was on his way to a travel basketball game with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna when the helicopter crashed. "Much respect my brother". After graduation, he was selected by the Charlotte Hornets during the 1996 National Basketball Association draft as the 13th overall pick.

The "Black Mamba" was the driving force behind the Lakers' five championships since the turn of the millenium.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Beast, 27-year-old comedian and former United States dollars student Abdulrahman Almutairi revealed that he was almost kidnapped by a suspected agent of the Saudi government and it happened on American soil. In 2018 he won an Oscar for his animated short film "Dear Basketball".

NBA players, celebrities, basketball journalists, and fans shared their shock on social media at the untimely death.

After James passed Bryant on Saturday, he remembered listening to Bryant when the superstar came to speak at a childhood basketball camp.
