None of those who tested positive are Canadian.

The health checks began on Monday evening after an 80-year-old Hong Kong man who sailed on the vessel last month tested positive for the Wuhan coronavirus.

The elderly and those with pre-existing conditions will be tested for the virus as they tend to be worst affected if infected, the ministry said.

Later on Wednesday, health workers in the port city of Yokohama, said 10 more people were confirmed sickened with the virus and they will be transferred to nearby hospitals for further testing and treatment.

The Japanese government spokesman, Yoshihide Suga, said on Monday that the Japanese authorities would quarantine the ship, which arrived in Yokohama Bay a day earlier than originally planned.

The cruise authorities reportedly said in a statement that the man did not visit a medical centre inside the ship while he was sailing. The vessel was quarantined February 5 for a minimum two-week period.
