While the patient who died was "stable and showed signs of improvement" during his last few days in the hospital, his condition deteriorated in the 24 hours before he died, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte approved a ban on the entry of all non-citizens from China.

The outbreak is reminiscent of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), a virus from the same family that emerged in China in 2002 and killed nearly 800 people around the world out of the roughly 8,000 who were infected.

Taiwan is asking its diplomats to talk to governments where Taiwanese airlines fly to ensure more flights are not cut off due the island's inclusion by the World Health Organization as part of China due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Twenty-four patients previously under investigation for infection were tested negative for the new coronavirus, while samples from four other patients were still being tested, the health department said.

To constrain the deadly Coronavirus, the Chinese authorities have also imposed quarantine and travel restrictions, affecting the movement of 56 million people in more than a dozen cities.

Despite imposing drastic travel restrictions at home, China has criticised those imposed by foreign governments. The 14-day ban applies to foreigners leaving China but not to New Zealand residents.

Airlines will be required to ask all passengers booked on flights from outside the US if they've been to mainland China in the last 14 days. The Doha-based carrier said on its website that its flights would stop Monday.

Saudi Arabia's flagship national carrier, Saudia, also suspended flights to China.

Saudi Arabia's state-run media reported that 10 Saudi students were evacuated from Wuhan on a special flight.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Saturday that all travelers from mainland China allowed into Australia had to be quarantined for 14 days. They went into a two-week quarantine.

Vietnam reported one more case on Saturday, taking the total in the country to six.

He arrived in the Philippines with a Chinese woman who had also tested positive for the virus, it added. There are three confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in California, one in Washington State, one in Arizona and two in IL.

Most of the 304 who have died were in that region, but officials have confirmed multiple deaths elsewhere, including in the capital Beijing.

"However, we need to take into mind that this is not a locally acquired case".

Meanwhile, several countries - including India - have sped up the evacuation process after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak as a global health crisis.

That declaration "flipped the switch" from a cautious attitude earlier to recommending governments prepare for the possibility the virus might spread, said WHO's representative in Beijing, Gauden Galea.

Coronavirus symptoms include fever, coughing and shortness of breath.

Another 4,562 new suspected cases were reported on Saturday, said the commission.

Eighteen other countries have since reported cases, as scientists race to understand how the virus is spreading and how severe it could become.
