For the latest on the coronavirus, contact your local health department and visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. Students will receive refunds on housing and dining services for the remainder of the semester.

To prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, Norfolk State University is addressing the need for social distancing by ordering students to move home immediately.

The student returned to campus after spring break on March 9 and has been in isolation since March 12, according to the email.

Information regarding Spring 2020 commencement exercises will be sent out no later than Wednesday, March 25.

The accommodations are mostly co-ed environments which include solo units, units with a roommate or apartment style buildings where people have their own room but share a kitchen, washroom and living room with three to five other students.

In a statement to students the university said: "This is a significant change to make quickly, and we would ask you, please, to bear with us if there are a few glitches". "In addition, commencement ceremonies will not be held in May".

On-campus dining centers will only provide grab-and-go food items, in compliance with recent restrictions from NY state, the release states. Additional details will be shared regarding departures from the residence halls, online coursework and other considerations. "Throughout our Tiger community faculty, staff, students, alumni and stakeholders are stepping up to the challenge and finding solutions to the challenges we now face". I thank you all for your patience and flexibility as we work to continue with the semester under these new circumstances. However, the safety of our community is our utmost priority and each hard decision to de-densify the campus is being implemented in an effort to reduce our community's risk to exposure. If that is the case for you, you are welcome to stay here, and we will continue to support you.
