"I am that person who if I have been speaking a lot of Spanish then I tend to mix them and if I've been speaking a lot of English then I mix up my Spanish", she said.

Everything you need to know about Hilaria Baldwin, who has come under fire after questions about where she was born and her accent came to the fore on social media.

"First thing I told my husband is that I was born in Boston", Hilaria said in the Sunday post.

"I've seen chatter online questioning my identity and culture", Ms Baldwin wrote.

Hilaria Baldwin has implied many times that she is Spanish and very much proud of her heritage. But Baldwin responded by saying that she spent time in both Spain and MA and used the names based on whichever language she was speaking in.

Credit where credit's due: in trying to untangle herself from her own ruse, Hilaria/Hillary actually managed to school a few Americans on the difference between being Spanish and being Hispanic.

Ms Baldwin, a popular yoga instructor, has been accused on social media of faking her Spanish accent. She was born and raised in Boston with zero Spanish heritage. My parents and siblings live in Spain and I chose to live here, in the USA. Her old MySpace profile and her high school yearbook from the private Cambridge School of Weston, in MA, list her name as Hillary Hayward-Thomas, according to The Daily Beast, and the outlet also reported she's registered to vote in NY under the names Hilaria L. Baldwin and Hillary Hayward-Thomas.

In a podcast interview from April, Baldwin states she did not move to the United States until she was 19 when she attended New York University.

Hilaria Baldwin's CAA page online. Some were commenting the video with sarcasm, while others were concerned about the reason she wants to be perceived as Spanish.

The portion of Schumer's post that earned her the most praise was the cucumber emoji that she added to the end of her caption.

Nearly right after saying she was taking a break, Hilaria returned to Insta with pics of an "evening meditation" with three of her kids, as well as shots of her and daughter Carmen snuggling their newborn. However, further posts say that her parents lived in MA and traced her family living there in times that "pre-dated the American Revolution".

In her Instagram video posted Sunday, Baldwin discussed growing up bilingual.

The controversy around Baldwin's background emerged last week after she had a back-and-forth on Instagram with comedian and fellow mom Amy Schumer. She said she'll "enunciate" for work as a social media influencer and TV personality, but will sometimes mix the two languages when speaking especially when nervous or upset: "It's not something I'm playing at ..."

"I've tried in the past to be clear, but people don't always report and say what you say", she continued. "They want to spray it all over you, their venom and their hate". People can say anything. "I love you and I'm going to sign off for a long time". "She's pretending to have the experience of an immigrant who doesn't speak fluent English and is leaning into a sexy Hispanic stereotype that harms Hispanic and Latina women".
