Cop injured in US Capitol riot dies, toll 5

Capitol police said his death was under investigation by homicide detectives from the Washington metropolitan police and federal law enforcement.

Capitol police have not released details about how Ms Boyland died.

The 42-year-old U.S. Capitol police officer killed in Wednesday's riots is a military veteran from New Jersey.

"Brian is a hero and that is what we would like people to remember", the family said. He also created a social media website with the same name to connect Trump supporters, according to WNEP TV in Moosic, Pennsylvania.

"None of this should have happened", Mr Sasse said in a statement.

"The past four years we have had a president who has made his contempt for our democracy, our Constitution, the rule of law, clear in everything he has done", he said.
