Ukraine president denies Trump 'blackmailed' him to investigate Biden

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday for the first time called for President Donald Trump's impeachment.

"He's shooting holes in the constitution, and we can not let him get away with it", added Biden. NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben is on the trail with Biden.

The president has said without offering any evidence that the younger Biden received $1.5 billion from the Chinese government as a "payoff" to curry favor with the then-vice president.

The call prompted a whistleblower complaint and Democratic impeachment inquiry of the Republican president. Supporters of the regulation say it was aimed at deterring bribery. Now - while other candidates had been more direct. Trump called on China to investigate Biden.

In an effort to stave off the fast-moving inquiry, the White House earlier this week sent a letter to congressional Democrats to say the President and his administration won't cooperate, arguing the proceedings amount to an illegitimate effort to overturn the 2016 election results. Here's what he said.

In response President Trump spent most of the weekend blasting Romney on Twitter and calling for his impeachment (even though that's not possible).

"Donald Trump has violated his oath of office, betrayed this nation, and committed impeachable acts", Biden told a crowd in New Hampshire.

One of Trump's very first actions as president was to sign a law that rescinded a Securities and Exchange Commission regulation that would have required oil and gas companies listed on USA stock exchanges to disclose any payments they made to governments around the world.

It was not immediately clear to which poll the president was referring.

The 41-year-old president reacted with surprise, saying he was a "modest" person and averse to celebrations.

The entire impeachment narrative is predicated on the notion that Joe Biden did nothing wrong.

The move from Biden's team appears to be part of a broad campaign to respond to Trump's attacks on social media. So Biden made this about electability.

"I'm not going to be distracted", he said.

KURTZLEBEN: You know, as far as impeachment, the voters here, they care about it. Democratic contender Sen. Elizabeth Warren is among those who have criticized the company for allowing Trump to spread falsehoods in his ads. "I'm not going to weigh in on that".

On Sept. 18, The Washington Post first reported that a whistleblower complaint, which was filed with the inspector general of the intelligence community on August 12, was concerning a phone call with a "foreign leader".
