"It's a.45-caliber semiautomatic pistol, which had no more rounds in it, had no more bullets in it", Wegener said.
A sheriff's detective and two off-duty police officers from Los Angeles and Inglewood who had dropped off children at the school ran to the shooting within moments and provided first aid, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. One of the victims has been released from the hospital, and two are expected to be released in the next few days.
A 14-year-old boy was treated and released from another hospital, authorities said.
A video of the shooting shows the teenager shooting himself in the head.
"No matter how much you prepare, there's still a part of you that doesn't think this will happen to you", she said.
Freshman Rosie Rodriguez said she was walking up the library stairs when she heard noises that "sounded like balloons" popping. The hospital tweeted that a female patient had died; that two males were in critical condition and that another male was in good condition. He said the families of the other student killed and those wounded did not authorize him to release their names.
On Friday, November 15, Muehlberger's identity was confirmed by the Los Angeles coroner. School officials said the three other wounded students were in stable condition.
He shot five of his classmates, killing at least two, before taking the gun to his head and pulling the trigger, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The shooting also prompted a lockdown order for nearby elementary schools.

Katie Hill, who graduated from Saugus in 2004 and represented Santa Clarita and surrounding communities in Congress until earlier this month. But previous year, the two were together in a group for their engineering class and grew to become close friends.
People hurt in the incident were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. "He doesn't move", sheriff's homicide Capt. Kent Wegener said.
Others offered shelter to students fleeing their high school in this sleepy suburb north of Los Angeles on Thursday. Now, Saugus High School is hallowed ground.

Sheriff's deputies have swarmed the campus 30 miles (50 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
Ryan McCracken, 20, was heading to College of the Canyons when he noticed police cars rushing toward Saugus High School.
