Mason Rudolph Won't Take Legal Action Against Myles Garrett

Pouncey said after the incident that Garrett "could have killed" Rudolph. The NFL isn't saying when the star defensive end will play again.

Garrett - the first pick of the first round, in the 2017 NFL Draft - was a 2018 Pro Bowl selection. But Garrett's punishment doesn't totally absolve Rudolph, who helped ignite an on-field riot in a league that is violent enough.

In 2006, Tennessee's Albert Haynesworth was suspended five games after he stomped on Dallas Cowboys centre Andre Gurode's head. Unfortunately, the evil zebras and Mr Roger Goodell of the National Football League, conspired to end Garrett's shining year, and take the wind out of our beloved Cleveland Browns. Garrett then swung the helmet and hit Rudolph in the head.

"Last night, I made a bad mistake".

Many will argue that just missing the rest of an already lost season isn't enough for Garrett's clearly intentional assault with a deadly weapon, and I for one am hard-pressed to disagree. I want to apologize to Mason Rudolph, my teammates, our entire organization, our fans and the NFL.

Pittsburgh players were incensed, with center Maurkice Pouncey throwing a couple of punches at Garrett, before trying to kick him in the head after he was wrestled to the ground.

Seconds later another Browns' player, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, rushed up to Rudolph and hit him from behind knocking him to the ground a second time.

Ogunjobi was punished for unnecessary roughness for shoving an opposing player to the ground during an altercation.

The 22-year-old player was suspended four games earlier this season for a drug violation. The Browns and Steelers were fined each with $ 250,000. "He understands that he let himself down, his teammates down and his organization down". He looked to his own team to discuss what the Browns should have done. You made a mistake. "He feels like he's letting us down obviously that he's not going to be out there with us on gamedays". "That's not who Myles wants to be. We will support him".

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield called Garrett's actions "inexcusable" and "dangerous", and felt the last eight seconds changed how the win felt.

Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam issued a statement shortly after the NFL's ruling. Never beat Baltimore and Pittsburgh in the same year since 1999, and then we have to talk about this.

Added Steelers President Art Rooney II: "We must always maintain composure, no matter what happens".

With Rudolph declining to file a civil lawsuit, the only way Garrett can now face legal consequences is if a Cleveland prosecutor decides to file criminal charges against him.

The NFL says other fines and suspensions may come about, but Rudolph clearly deserves something for his role in the melee. "Being hit on your uncovered head by a helmet being swung by a 275 lb DE is not one of them", Younger said on Twitter.

Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia told cleveland.com that Rudolph returned to Pittsburgh without filing a report to trigger a criminal investigation. Is it ideal for the Dolphins to play the Browns next weekend without half of their starting defensive line?

Of course, this all makes for an interesting rematch between the teams in two weeks on December 1 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The loss of Garrett is a devastating blow to Cleveland's defense. He was sacked as Browns offensive coordinator in October 2018 after less than one year on the job, with Kitchens taking over the role before being hired as head coach after the season.

But beyond the football, the Browns have taken a shot to their image. He held on to the quarteback's hemlet as Rudolph went to try and get it back.
