The electric vehicle maker Tesla is set to showcase "many exciting things" at its Battery Day on September 22. Expect questions and hopefully answers about Tesla's various construction projects around the world, including new factories in Austin, Texas and Berlin as well as the expansion in Shanghai.
Tesla now produces batteries in partnership with Japan's Panasonic Corp 6752.T at its $5 billion Nevada factory, while South Korea's LG Chem 051910.KS and China's CATL 300750.SZ supply cells to its Shanghai factory. "This is the most number of vehicles per day that we' would ever hd [sic] to deliver", the email reportedly read.
Panasonic is Tesla's primary battery cell supplier. It also contributes to the million-mile battery. Electrek reported that Tesla's working on a secret project called Roadrunner, which is essentially cheaper, in-house mass production of battery cells. The development would bring in one of the biggest electric vehicle makers in the world to Karnataka and would bump up the state's image with a high-profile and news making investor marking its presence in a city that is already known as a R&D hub for sectors such as aviation, biotechnology, and information technology.
It led us and many more people that China could contribute close to 50,000 vehicles in the third quarter, but maybe that was overly optimistic.
Some battery industry officials are wary that such move which could put pressure on battery prices. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, battery costs dropped 87% from $US1,183/kWh in 2010 to $SU156/kWh in 2019, and in 2020 are averaged at $US135/kWh. The facility on Kato Road also had an application for what appears to be a more permanent permit, but it remains incomplete for data, which means the company never submitted all the necessary data for regulators to review.
"There's like two general classes of cell". Then, a few months later, he suggested that they would "definitely" be there in 2020.
India is also aiming to expand its EV market.
"These will affect the value of existing order books and perceived growth and returns for EV battery companies".
The new chemistry likely will be needed as Tesla rolls out larger vehicles including its "Cybertruck" pickup and a Semi that is under development.
Tesla is not alone in hinting at battery advancements.
Analysts, including those with neutral ratings on Tesla's stock, expect major advances from Musk.
Earlier this year, in what's essentially become a meme of its own, Musk said that Battery Day is going to "blow your mind".
This is driving Tesla aggressively every quarter to reduce its inventory and deliver as many vehicles as possible at the end of the quarter.
On a local note, there is also speculation on whether Australia can gain from an increase in demand for electric vehicle batteries.
